“Nítido” — 2025
Mural created for El Mero Muro at the Mexic-Arte Museum, on 5th Street and Congress Avenue in Downtown Austin.

Nítido is my tribute to the Dale Shine culture and to the Mexican and Mexican American shoe shiners who worked the streets of Austin, especially around Congress Avenue. Their work represented labor, pride, dignity, style, and survival.

The boot represents Austin, while the act of shining it becomes a metaphor for what artists do, we’re giving Austin a shine, bringing color, memory, and pride back onto the streets.

My mural “Austin Salutes You” made it into the new Bon Jovi documentary: “Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story” that premiered at SXSW here in Austin.

I was a Bon Jovi fan when I was in school and I used to listen to the song “Wanted dead or alive” all the time with my friends. It was so cool to see that they used that song when they showed my mural.
